The late Shri KNSatyam Setty, founder of Shrinivas Sugandhalaya, started making agarbatti in early 1964. The beginnings were modest and almost solo. Manufacturing Process Started from small residential premises in Bhatwadi, Ghatkopar, Mumbai.
As the emperor of Masala Incense (Agarbatti), Shri.Setty invented the empty range of innovative products. The launch of "SATYA SAI BABA NAG CHAMPA AGARBATTI" created a revolution in the global market in the late seventies. Nagchampa has become extremely famous around the world, especially in the United States and Europe. It is considered the largest exported brand of incense sticks from India. Needless to say, the brand continues to be strong in all countries where it is exported. Currently, it is exported to more than 45 countries around the world and new countries are added frequently. Countries like Japan, Yugoslavia, etc. recently appeared in the associates' directory. Yet, in a growing list, few other countries are waiting for their priority to join SATYA. A belief in the power of the imagination led to the birth of Shrinivas Sugandhalaya.
It was a nagging question for the late Shri KN Satyam Setty, founder of Shrinivas Sugandhalaya. Reached from a rare disease called anosmia that impairs the ability to feel, Satyam Setty has decided to imagine a world of scents. He created a small incense-making unit in 1964, offsetting his inability to feel through the study of ancient Indian texts on perfumery and incense making. He was particularly interested in a practice used by monks in medieval times, in which the key ingredients of incense were incorporated and massaged in a special resin container, which was then rolled by hand into incense. This technique called "masala" or "flora" has become the main engine of production at Shrinivas Sugandhalaya (the other technique, known as "charcoal" incense is literally to soak the unscented stick directly into the mixture of ingredients). Over the years, "masala" incense has imposed itself on a global audience as sustainable, stronger and stronger by stick than its counterpart "dipped" and Satyam Setty, the contemporary incense of the "king of Masala".
Satyam Setty was an enthusiastic innovator and used his imagination to evoke powerful moods through his mix of recipes. The first blend of the house was the Satya Sai Baba Nag Champa, which is to date the most sought-after and the most commercially successful blend of masala / flora incense in the world.
While Satyam Setty studied and innovated at Shrinivas Sugandhalaya, her son, Shri Balakrishna Setty, became her manufacturing partner.
